Jane Robbins - Portrait Sculptor.
After studying in London at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in theatre arts and working as a professional theatrical scenic artist and prop maker, Jane Robbins went on to qualify in figurative sculpture at Stafford College.
As a professional figurative and portrait sculptor, she is passionate about not only the human figure and its celebration in 3D form, but the production of lasting, inspirational sculptures embracing traditional craftsmanship and sculptural skills and technique. Jane Robbins work as a sculptor include private commissions and sculptures working mainly in bronze, to sculptures in other durable materials such as fired clay, bronze and marble resins. She has produced many memorial sculptures including: Fred Dibnah, Andy Capp and Percy Thrower and the Queen Mother.
Along with privately and publicly commissioned portraiture work, Jane also teaches, and was invited by surgeon Iain Hutchison to work as sculptor in residence at St Barts Hospital, London in the maxillofacial department where she created portraits of facially disfigured patients. Under the umbrella of the charity “Saving Faces”, she helped patients study and come to terms with their “new” surgically altered faces through the medium of portrait sculpture, which was found to have a hugely beneficial effect upon their self esteem.
Jane works initially in clay, and portraits (whether they’re flat backed “relief” panels or 3D figures and heads) can be either produced from several sittings in the studio or directly from photos. The finished clay sculpture is then cast into bronze.
